Camber Sands
SEE & DO.
Barnscapes sits in the High Weald AONB in East Sussex, between Hastings and Rye, surrounded by countryside and great local food. There are farm shops, vineyards and producers nearby, along with plenty of walks, beaches, open space and villages to explore. Here are some our favourite places and things to do.
WALKS.
1. ICKLESHAM
This walk is right on our front door. There is a country path just around the corner, which connects to the famous 1066 Country Walk. Public Rights of Way - Public Rights of Way map
2. FAIRLIGHT & THE FIREHILLS
This is our favourite walk. You can park in Fairlight, Shepherds Way. Walk up Channel Way which will lead you directly onto Hastings Country Park. From here, your walk can be short or as long as you prefer as there are many route options. The cliff side views are breathtaking. Alternatively, park at the top at Fairlight Head in the Hastings Country park, where there is a cafe and paid parking area.
3. GUESTLING CHURCH
Starting from a path through the churchyard, this trail takes you along the scenic woodland track, where you can enjoy bluebells in season.
4. PETT LEVEL BEACH
An easy walk for a quick stroll or a longer walk, view some lovely beach homes and there’s a cafe. At low tide, you can see fossilised stumps of trees, believed to date back to before the Ice Age. The beach was also the location for David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes' video.
5. RYE HARBOUR NATURE RESERVE
A lovely walk, with a modern cafe. Mostly on paths, but can go ontothe country route.
6. CAMBER SANDS
Further on from Rye is Camber Sands with beautiful dunes and huge sandy beach. Popular throughout the year with families & dog walkers.
7. HASTINGS WEST HILL
Lots of lovely walking routes along the coastal path from Hastings to Rye. One of the most popular is the Hastings Circular Walk.
